Upcoming fundraisers and news:

First Friday of each month 7:00pm – Farrington Ruritan Club “Bingo” at the Old Farrington Firehouse. They help local charities, so come on out.

Saturday April 13, Beaverdam Wine Festival. 11am-5pm. 19419 Beaverdam Rd – behind Pop’s Country Store. This features 4 Virginia wineries, live music, arts & crafts, and food. Click here for info & tickets:  Beaverdam Wine Festival

End of April – Hanover County Spring Harvest Food Drive. The date isn’t confirmed yet, but will have participation from Beaverdam Elementary, Liberty Middle and Patrick Henry HS.

Transportation for Hanover Residents: Ken Lantz, working with Senior Connections, is making headway on developing a transportation service in Hanover County. There is no bus system in our area but if your church has a bus and is willing to discuss the possibility of having that bus available for transporting individuals to doctor appointments, hospital visits, or even for grocery shopping, please contact WHEAT at 877-559-4328. There are insurance programs available to help with liability issues. WHEAT would like very much to get the interested churches together to at least get the discussion started.

Winterization Program Over the years, Hanover’s annual Winterization program coordinated by Hanover Dept. of Community Resources has helped hundreds of low-income, disabled and/or elderly residents by installing plastic over windows, wrapping water pipes and weather-stripping doors. The success of this program lies in the dedication of volunteers who serve the community through this effort by conducting the needed work…… with the help of WHEAT and other appeals, the county received enough to cover the 2012 Winterization season. A total of 55 households were served this year by 20 volunteer groups along with 23 home repair projects that were completed.

QUILT Raffle. From May 20, 2012 through May 20, 2013, WHEAT representatives will be helping sell tickets (only $1.00 each!) for “Vintage Stars.”
